Merce Cunningham Workshop: Beach Birds

Discover the movements of Merce Cunningham’s Beach Birds in a workshop led by Patricia Lent. Offered in conjunction with the screening of Beach Birds: A New Arrangement at Miami Light Project's ScreenDance Miami Festival, this session provides participants with an opportunity to engage with Cunningham’s iconic 1991 choreography.

Scheduled for Friday, January 24 at the Miami Theater Center, the workshop begins with a brief warm-up, followed by an exploration of selected phrases from the dance. Lent, who staged the 2023 Rockaway Beach performance, will also share insights into how the choreography was adapted for the shoreline. Designed for intermediate-level dancers, the session welcomes movers of all experience levels.

Patricia Lent, a former member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and Co-Director of the Merce Cunningham Trust, brings decades of expertise in staging and teaching Cunningham’s work.
