Collegiate Shag, a partner dance born in the 1920s and 1930s, is a lively member of the swing dance family, characterized by its high-energy steps and connection to uptempo swing and pre-swing jazz music. Originating within the African American community of the Carolinas, this dance style gained popularity across the U.S., particularly among college students during the swing era of the 1930s and 1940s.
Today, Collegiate Shag continues to thrive among swing dance enthusiasts worldwide. Whether you’re new to swing or looking to expand your repertoire, this class offers a fun and engaging introduction to a timeless dance style.
