Jan 18, 2025
From: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Experience the joy of swing dance in a beginner-friendly session led by four-time World Champion Yuval Hod and Gypsy Juls. This free class, taking place on Saturday, January 18 at the Jazz Age Stage in Lummus Park, is part of the Miami Design Preservation League's Art Deco Weekend event lineup, organized in collaboration with KCC Productions and All Swing Productions. No partner is required.
Learn the basics of the Lindy Hop, a dynamic dance style born in Harlem in 1928. Blending jazz, tap, breakaway and Charleston influences, the Lindy Hop rose to prominence during the swing era of the late 1930s and 1940s. This dance combines African-American improvisational movements with the structured rhythms of European partner dances. Its defining move, the swingout, showcases the dance's dynamic mix of open and closed positions.
Today, Lindy Hop thrives worldwide as a social, competitive and performance dance, celebrated for its creativity and energetic spirit. This session provides an engaging introduction to this timeless art form, set against the backdrop of Lummus Park. Whether you're a dance enthusiast or simply curious, this class is the perfect way to step into the rhythm and history of swing.
