Balboa Taster
Jan 20, 2025
From: Noon to 1:00 PM
Discover the history and elegant movements of Balboa, a swing dance style that emerged in Southern California during the 1920s. This free class with dance champions Minn Vo and Lily Matini is part of the Miami Design Preservation League's Art Deco Weekend lineup. The Balboa Taster takes place on Monday, January 20, at the Jazz Age Stage in Lummus Park on 12th Street and Ocean Drive. No partner is required.
Known for its close connection and intricate footwork, Balboa is danced in an upright posture with rhythmic variations below the knees, making it perfect for crowded dance floors and fast jazz tempos. This introductory session offers participants a chance to learn the basics of Balboa.
Between jazz band breaks, attendees can also enjoy additional mini dance lessons and entertainment, making this an engaging experience for dance enthusiasts and curious beginners alike. RSVP is required for this free event.
