Jan 19, 2025
From: 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM
Discover the dynamic energy of 1930s and 1940s Charleston in this free dance class led by four-time World Champions Nathalie Gomes Adams and Yuval Hod. Held at the Jazz Age Stage in Lummus Park on 12th Street, this session on Sunday, January 19, is part of the Miami Design Preservation League’s Art Deco Weekend event lineup. A partner is not required, and participation is free with RSVP.
Evolving from the high-energy kicks of 1920s Charleston, the 30s and 40s style adapted to swing jazz music and became a core component of Lindy Hop. Known as Swinging Charleston, this eight-count dance can be performed solo or with a partner, allowing for creativity and improvisation. The class offers a fun introduction to the history and versatility of this influential dance style.
Between jazz band sets, attendees can also enjoy mini dance lessons and additional entertainment.
