MICHELIN Two Keys

Michelin Guide's Point of View

MICHELIN Two Keys: an exceptional stay

Just a few miles up the road from Miami Beach proper, in the upscale enclave of Surfside, is the legendary Surf Club, an ornate Jazz Age gem whose doors first opened in 1930. Today the original club remains, augmented by modern structures containing residences and the Four Seasons Hotel

Once the glamorous host to Hollywood and royalty as a landmark since 1930, the captivating revival of the legendary Surf Club is the fourth Four Seasons in the Sunshine State. Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club occupies nine acres of oceanfront and gardens in Surfside, Florida, minutes from famed Bal Harbour shopping and the sights and sounds of Miami Beach.

Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier has created a masterwork of openness and light, with exclusive private residences and an intimate hotel embracing Russell Pancoast's faithfully restored Mediterranean-Revival clubhouse at its heart. Lounge in a poolside super-luxe cabana, clink glasses in the historic 'Peacock Alley,' dine with unimpeded ocean vistas, or hide away in understated contemporary elegance while experiencing the timeless glamour of the original Surf Club, re-imagined.

As you arrive at the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club through the historic Peacock Alley, prepare to be submerged in the elegant glamour of old meets new. The second you step foot on the cobblestone driveway and enter through the remarkable doors of The Surf Club you immediately feel a connection with the rich history of the past. On the left-hand side hangs a framed photo of Winston Churchill painting in one of the cabanas during the peak of The Surf Club heyday. Directly opposite is a picture of a yacht, the Marybelle to be exact, which signifies the birth of The Surf Club. Aboard the Marybelle was where tire tycoon Harvey Firestone first had the idea of establishing a unique social club for the elite. However, he could have never imagined the sheer popularity of what he would soon create.

As you are led along the original terracotta floors and palm tree-lined alleyway, look to your left and right to see archived photographs by artist Michele Oka Donner that depict the infamous parties and members of The Surf Club. The historical arrival experience of The Surf Club is not just about remembering what the social club once was, but it is a story and an experience you feel as you continue your journey through Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club.
