Dec 05, 2024 - Dec 07, 2024
Starting: 8:00 PM
Renowned South African artist William Kentridge brings his groundbreaking theatrical work, The Great Yes, The Great No, to the Adrienne Arsht Center from December 5 to 7. This US premiere reimagines a historic wartime voyage from Vichy France to Martinique, transporting audiences to a world where fact and fiction intertwine.
The Great Yes, The Great No is part play, part oratorio and part chamber opera, incorporating acting, dance, shadow play, film, music and photography to explore anti-rational ways of communicating. Based on actual events, the performance features a cast of historical and fictional figures, including French anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss, Cuban artist Wifredo Lam and the mythical ferryman Charon as the ship's captain. Told through a mix of French, English and South African languages, the show delves into themes of surrealism and the search for a freer future.
Public sale begins August 9.
