Reef Talk: Miami Beach
Feb 26, 2025
From: 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Marine scientists and local environmentalists unite to spotlight the reef ecosystem just offshore of Miami Beach's coastline. Reef Talk: Miami Beach, scheduled for Wednesday, February 26 from 7-9 p.m. at the Miami Design Preservation League's Art Deco Welcome Center, brings together experts to discuss the state of local coral reefs and marine conservation efforts.
The evening features presentations by National Geographic Explorer Dr. Shireen Rahimi, environmental advocate David Grieser and artist/photographer Patrick Breshike. Topics include an overview of local coral and fish species, current reef protection initiatives and the broader challenges facing coral reef ecosystems worldwide.
Following the presentations, attendees can connect with representatives from local environmental organizations including Urban Paradise Guild, The Bridge Initiative The Women's Water Collective and Miami Design Preservation League. This networking session provides opportunities to learn about ongoing conservation projects and ways to get involved in protecting Miami Beach's marine environment.
Dr. Rahimi brings her expertise as an award-winning filmmaker and marine scientist, while Grieser shares insights from his decade of environmental work in Miami. Breshike will present his photographic documentation of marine life found on the nearby Neon Reef.
This free event welcomes both residents and visitors interested in learning about and protecting Miami Beach's underwater treasures.
