Patricia L. Cooke: Anodyne
This event has passed.
Discover Patricia L. Cooke’s Anodyne at the Sherry Frontenac Hotel, part of the City of Miami Beach’s No Vacancy exhibition running from November 14 to December 12. This mixed-media installation celebrates the vital role of South Florida’s mangrove ecosystems, featuring quilted works that replicate the intricate root systems and underwater views of these ancient trees. Crafted in calming pastel tones, the pieces evoke the tranquil experience of navigating through mangroves while reflecting their environmental significance as natural filters and protectors of coastal habitats.
Cooke, a Miami-based artist and University of Miami sculpture lecturer, brings her extensive background in mixed media to this project. Her work has been featured in notable exhibitions across the country, earning recognition such as nominations for the Joan Mitchell Fellowship and local artist grants.
As one of 12 site-specific installations in No Vacancy, Anodyne invites visitors to explore the intersection of art and ecology within the iconic setting of a Miami Beach hotel. Funded by the City of Miami Beach Cultural Arts Council, Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority, and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, this annual event transforms the city into a vibrant showcase of contemporary art.
