New World School of the Arts: Rising Stars
Mar 14, 2025
Starting: 7:30 PM
More than 200 gifted young performers take the stage to showcase the future of dance, music and theater. New World School of the Arts presents Rising Stars on Friday, March 14 at the Adrienne Arsht Center.
Under the direction of theater dean Alan Patrick Kenny, this professionally staged showcase features selections from the current academic year's most compelling performances. Theater highlights include scenes from the evocative play Kodachrome, directed by Kenny, and the Tony Award-winning musical Chicago, under Matthew Buffalo's direction.
The music program, led by Dr. Grant Gilman and Dr. Megan Barrera, presents the Symphony Orchestra and Opera Theatre Ensemble performing excerpts from Johann Strauss II's Die Fledermaus. The High School Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jim Gasior, brings Duke Ellington's classic Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue to life.
Dance performances feature excerpts from Paul Taylor's masterwork Esplanade and Robert Garland's contemporary ballet Joplin Dances, demonstrating the students' versatility across classical and modern styles.
