Kabuya Pamela Bowens-Saffo: From the Heights opens at the Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at Miami Dade College on December 2, 2024, and runs through March 15, 2025. This exhibition marks Bowens-Saffo’s first solo show in Miami, featuring a comprehensive collection of her work from 1977 to the present. A South Florida native and influential figure in the local art community, Bowens-Saffo’s practice as a printmaker reflects a deep engagement with social and political human relations, with a particular focus on the African American experience.
Born in Richmond Heights, Florida, Bowens-Saffo played an active role in Miami’s artistic landscape, participating in the Miami Black Arts Workshop and serving as an educator at the Barnyard Community Center in Coconut Grove. Her work explores themes of race, gender and class while celebrating art collectives and the importance of preserving an artist’s legacy. Developed in collaboration with the Women Artists Archive Miami (WAAM), this exhibition highlights Bowens-Saffo’s contributions to the cultural fabric of South Florida and beyond.
Bowens-Saffo holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Howard University and an MFA from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. Her artistic achievements have been recognized with awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts.
