Julia Zurilla: -- .. .- .-- -..- (MIA WX)
This event has passed.
A thoughtful exploration of nostalgia and climate urgency, as part of the City of Miami Beach's No Vacancy exhibition.
Julia Zurilla’s — .. .- .– -..- (MIA WX) transforms the Avalon Hotel into an immersive multimedia experience with a combination experimental videos and circular photographs, arranged in a visual Morse code pattern. The artwork intertwines past and present, inviting viewers to reflect on environmental realities through “the lifesaving language” of dashes, dots, and spaces.
Zurilla, a Venezuelan-born artist based in Miami since 2017, has exhibited internationally, with her work delving into themes of belonging, memory, and identity. Her art often incorporates family archives, poetry, and textiles, creating immersive site-specific environments. For No Vacancy, Zurilla’s conceptual approach seamlessly adapts to the Avalon Hotel, addressing the urgency of climate communication while inviting viewers to engage with personal and universal connections.
This installation is on view from November 14 to December 12 as part of the larger No Vacancy exhibition, which showcases 12 site-specific artworks across iconic Miami Beach hotels. Visitors are encouraged to explore each unique venue to experience contemporary art in unexpected spaces.
