Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band is set to bring its vibrant big band sound to Pinecrest Gardens on Friday, April 11. Under the leadership of Grammy-winning composer and conductor Gordon Goodwin, this ensemble of 18 top-tier Los Angeles musicians is celebrated for its innovative fusion of movie scores, big band jazz and contemporary arrangements. Known for taking the big band tradition into the new millennium, the Big Phat Band is known for delivering dynamic performances.
Gordon Goodwin, an accomplished pianist, saxophonist and composer, has garnered multiple Grammy and Daytime Emmy Awards throughout his career. His arrangements are known for their cleverness and variety, incorporating elements of Latin, blues, swing, classical and hard-hitting jazz. The band's repertoire includes performances with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, such as Madonna, Celine Dion, Quincy Jones and Ray Charles.
Goodwin’s cinematic scoring skills have been showcased in numerous films, including The Incredibles, National Treasure and Remember the Titans. The Big Phat Band’s distinct sound also features in the soundtrack to Looney Tunes’ Bah HumDuck!, blending jazz with the whimsical energy of classic animation.
This event is part of the 2024-2025 season of Pinecrest Gardens' Jazz Series and will be held in the historic Banyan Bowl amphitheater, known for its acoustics and unique geodesic dome.
