GeoVanna Gonzalez: Moving Interlude
This event has passed.
GeoVanna Gonzalez’s Moving Interlude transforms the Kimpton Palomar Hotel into a thought-provoking examination of urban design and its impact on social behavior. Inspired by the theories of sociologist Henri Lefebvre, the installation delves into how architectural elements can shape public spaces, sometimes reinforcing social inequalities through restrictive and exclusionary designs. By investigating these dynamics, Gonzalez invites viewers to consider the role of spatial justice in contemporary urban environments.
A Los Angeles native now based in Miami, Gonzalez’s multidisciplinary practice spans installation, sculpture, performance and moving image. Her work often bridges private and public realms, fostering collaboration and collective engagement while exploring themes of gender, identity and intimacy. Gonzalez has exhibited her work at institutions such as the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami and The Bass Museum and has received numerous awards, including the South Florida Cultural Consortium and WaveMaker Grant.
On view from November 14 to December 12, Moving Interlude is one of 12 installations showcased in No Vacancy, Miami Beach. Visitors are encouraged to explore this piece and others across South Beach hotels, experiencing the intersection of art and urban culture in unique spaces.
