weekly on Friday
Starting: 7:30 PM
ScreenDance Miami 2025 presents two evenings of dance-inspired cinema at Soundscape Park. On two consecutive Fridays, Films You Gotta See BIG! will showcase open call feature films and invited short film premieres on the New World Center’s massive 7,000-square-foot screen.
The Friday, January 17 program features two exciting premieres, beginning with Cut Me Summa Dat Noise (2024), a six-minute film by Cara Hagan that celebrates the rhythms of everyday life through the eyes of a neighborhood matriarch. The film captures the energy of a community as it comes to life, showing how music and movement connect people of all ages and backgrounds. Following the first premiere, Everything You Have Is Yours (2024), a 90-minute film by Hadar Ahuvia, Tatyana Tenenbaum and Brighid Greene, explores the personal journey of Ahuvia, a New York-based choreographer. The film delves into her investigation of the Israeli folk dances she grew up with and confronts the myths surrounding her family’s history in Palestine. This poignant film challenges narratives around identity and the complexities of cultural heritage.
On Friday, January 24, the program will include four premieres, starting with Beach Birds: A New Arrangement (2023), a 21-minute Florida Premiere performance of Merce Cunningham’s iconic work filmed by Alex Munro. Originally created in 1991, this new adaptation was staged on the shoreline at Rockaway Beach, New York, performed by 11 dancers. Following that, La Timidité des Cimes (2023), a 19-minute US Premiere by Loup-William Théberge, explores the introspective gaze of a man as he contemplates his artistic identity. Mataperra (2023), a 21-minute US Premiere by Yelda del Carmen and Rachel Trudeau, tells the story of a woman striving to make history by becoming the first Cuban to conquer three legendary mountain ascents. Lastly, Me and My Mother the Lumberjack (2024), a 23-minute Florida Premiere documentary by Jenny Larsson and Charlotte Berglin, delves into the unique relationship between a mother and daughter who share a deep connection to the forest while living distinctly different lives.
Presented by Miami Light Project, ScreenDance Miami celebrates the intersection of dance and film, bringing together artists and audiences to explore innovative forms of expression. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and snacks for an evening of art, dance and community. The event is free and open to the public.
