Complexions Contemporary Ballet

On Saturday, April 26, Complexions Contemporary Ballet takes the stage at The Moss Center, offering a groundbreaking performance that redefines contemporary ballet. Founded by acclaimed Alvin Ailey dancers Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson, Complexions are known for their innovative approach, blending the rich traditions of the Alvin Ailey lineage with a fresh, dynamic style. The company, praised as a “matchless American dance company” by the Philadelphia Inquirer, features a cast of 16 dancers.

The performance includes Woke, a bold and dynamic one-act ballet that serves as a physical response to current events. This socially conscious piece, featuring the full company, explores themes of humanity and the moral challenges of today’s political climate, inspired by the awareness and activism of the current generation.

In addition, the company will perform Love Rocks, set to the music of GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Lenny Kravitz. This work celebrates love, humanity and diversity, inviting the audience to come together in a shared experience of unity and joy.
