ARt Connecting Communities: A Night of Film, ARt, Virtual Reality, and Conversation

This immersive experience will feature interactive murals, oral history QR codes, live music, refreshments, and networking opportunities. A talkback session with artist Stefan Smith and Dr. Dorothy J. Fields, founder of the Black Archives, moderated by Miami MoCAAD co-founder Marilyn Holifield, will follow the screening.
The December 2 event will include:
- A virtual reality art exhibition in the outdoor plaza featuring the work of Marielle Plaisir, accessible via VR headsets.
- A screening of ARt Connecting Communities: Overtown and Coral Gables, directed by Michael Anderson and featuring renowned historian Dr. Dorothy Jenkins Fields.
- An art exhibit in the Lyric Theater lobby showcasing illuminated replicas of murals by Anthony Renelle "Mojo" Reed II, Reginald O'Neal, and Stefan Smith, with QR codes linking to nearby original murals.
- QR code-linked oral histories highlighting significant contributions to Miami’s development, such as Judge Lawson Thomas and the Overtown Longshoremen Union.
- A creative conversation with artists and organizers from the Soul Basel event.
- Networking sessions before and after the program with refreshments and music.
Miami MoCAAD is committed to discovering, commissioning, and preserving the work of contemporary artists from the global African Diaspora, showcasing their art both locally and internationally. The organization merges art and technology to modernize the art experience and plays a key role in positioning Overtown as a center for innovative art, engaging audiences from the community and beyond.
