Coral Gables Museum presents A Legacy of Caring: Celebrating 75 Years of Baptist Health Doctors Hospital, an exhibition that chronicles the hospital’s transformative role in the community. Curated by esteemed historian Paul S. George, Ph.D., this exhibition offers a compelling look at the hospital's evolution from its post-World War II origins to its status as a modern healthcare leader.
Opening its doors in 1949, Doctors Hospital began as a modest two-story facility and quickly became a vital part of Coral Gables' expanding post-war community. The exhibition delves into this history through rare photographs, documents and personal narratives, illustrating how the hospital has met the changing needs of the city over 75 years. Visitors will discover the visionary work of local physicians and nurse Mary Reeder, whose leadership helped shape the hospital’s early years. The exhibition also highlights the hospital's growth in the face of significant regional developments, reflecting broader social and economic changes in South Florida.
A Legacy of Caring is not only a tribute to the hospital’s history but also an exploration of its deep ties to the community, providing insight into the people and values that have sustained its mission of care for over seven decades.
